Make a multi-post image grid from one photo

An image grid divides a large composition into smaller tiles. Each tile is a separate image, while the complete layout recreates the original scene. A 3 × 3 layout produces nine tiles. Landscapes, illustrations, and images with a clear central subject often work well because they remain recognizable when viewed as a group.

Choose square or portrait tiles for your image grid

Square tiles use a 1:1 ratio, while portrait tiles give each post more height. Crop fills the layout and trims the source as needed. Padding keeps the full source and fills remaining space with a chosen background color. Profile thumbnail shapes and spacing can differ from post dimensions, so check the current destination preview before publishing.

Plan your Instagram grid posting order

The numbered preview identifies where every piece belongs in the full image. In a profile that shows the latest post at the upper left, you normally publish the final tile first and the first tile last. For nine tiles, that means 9 through 1. Pinned posts, intervening uploads, and profile layout changes can affect the result, so review your plan before posting.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Instagram Grid online: frequently asked questions

All FAQs

How do I turn one photo into a 3 × 3 grid?

Upload a photo, choose three rows and three columns, and download the nine numbered tiles. The preview shows how they fit together.

Can I split an image without cropping it?

Choose Padding. The entire source fits within the full grid, and empty space is filled with your selected color.

What order should I post the grid tiles in?

For a profile ordered newest first from the top left, post the last tile first and work backward. Check your profile layout and pinned posts before publishing.

Why might the profile preview look different from the tiles?

Social platforms can add gaps or crop profile thumbnails differently from the full post. Review the destination's current layout; the exported tiles themselves join edge to edge.
